How Do I Deliver an Engaging Speech on Motivation Theories to MBA Students?

Respected Seniors, I would like to have your guidance. I am working in an FMCG company as an HR Executive for 10 months. I have been selected by my Head to deliver a speech to the 1st-year MBA students in a college. Since it is my first time, I'm a bit nervous and directionless too. I have been told to explain to them the motivation theories with reference to the culture in my company. According to me, it's Theory Z, but I don't know how to start the speech and what steps I should follow while doing so. It should not seem like a daily management lecture and should also incorporate branding of our products. I also have to share the good HR practices followed in my company. Would request you to please revert. I have 2 days to prepare!!

Concerns About Delegation and Speech Preparation

First and foremost, in B-schools, seniors typically give lectures, not juniors. It is unclear how the B-school has accepted you as a speaker. Are you an MBA? If yes, did you complete a regular course? If so, did you attend such lectures? If yes, who were the speakers? Were they junior executives or individuals just a few years ahead of the students? Moreover, you have only been with the company for 10 months.

The second point concerns delegation by the HR Head. It appears that your HR Head has not understood whom to delegate to and what tasks to delegate. Why was there a need to seek advice in a public forum rather than consulting the HR Head directly? Additionally, it seems your HR Head did not discuss with you the points to cover in your speech.

If you believe that the internal administration of your company aligns with Theory Z, I suggest creating a list of examples supporting this theory. Gather a few more examples from other managers, conduct a practice session in front of your HR Head, and then deliver the speech.

Your post indicates that your Head of HR may benefit from a lecture on delegation. The sooner he attends one, the better!
