Are Interns Eligible for PF and ESIC During a 3-Month Internship? Let's Discuss

My name is Mahesh Thiruvaipti. I have a query regarding PF and ESIC. If an employee is hired for a 3-month duration internship, are they eligible for PF and ESIC?

Dear Mahesh,

The internship is meant for the students who need to gain knowledge in the concerned industry. Hence, normally they will not be provided any salary, stipend, or any monetary benefit. In fact, those interested should obtain a letter from their college and join as internship trainees. Since there is no payment, PF and ESI cannot be implemented.
