New to an MNC in Gurgaon: Which Attendance Register Should I Use for Audits?

I joined recently in an MNC in Gurgaon, Haryana. Please suggest which attendance register I need to maintain for audits.

This depends upon the applicability of the Act. If your company is covered under the Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, then you are required to maintain this register in Form 'C'. If the company is covered under the Factories Act, 1948, then you are to maintain this register under the Punjab Factory Rules, 1952, in Form 25.

Dear Sir,

Kindly advise, my company is under the Haryana Shop & Establishment Act. We are not maintaining any attendance register; we are taking attendance through a Biometric Machine and recording the same in hard copies in files.

Is there any need to maintain an attendance register? If yes, please advise which register we need to maintain. Is it compulsory to have employees' signatures on it, or can we mark "P" and "L" by HR?

While implementing the applicable Punjab Shops & Commercial Establishments Act, 1958, as applicable to the state of Haryana, we are required to maintain the Attendance Register in Form 'C'. When maintaining this register, we must obtain the signature of the concerned employee on this register.

Can you please describe the consequences if we do not have an attendance register?

Your question is: If detected by a labor officer, you will be in trouble. Without an attendance register, how can one establish that the calculated salary is correct?

I mean if I maintain attendance in an Excel sheet (hard copy), it will be kept in a file for record. Please clarify if there is any possibility of consequences if I do so.
