Analytical Abilities in Engineers

I am writing about engineers. In the course of my training programs, I have found that engineers often have poor analytical abilities. In fact, it is the analytical ability that distinguishes an engineer from a non-engineer. Nevertheless, while working on numerical examples, I found my participants, across various industries, expecting me to do the spoon-feeding. This feedback is echoed by other trainers who conduct technical training. We, the trainers, in our zeal to satisfy our customers, end up in ladle feeding. If this is not sufficient, then possibly in the future, we will end up in spade feeding!

Can Psychometric Tests Detect Analytical Abilities?

Hi Dinesh, Thanks for sharing your views. We understand the issues you face during training sessions with engineers and the vital role of analytical abilities for engineers. However, psychometric tests can detect the analytical abilities of engineers or any individual.

Psychometric Tests for Engineers

We have some psychometric tests that can evaluate candidates on the following dimensions: Verbal Ability, Numeric Ability, Logical Reasoning, Critical Thinking, Verbal Reasoning, Argument Analysis, Thinking as Hypothesis Testing, Likelihood, Uncertainty, Decision Making, and Problem Solving.

If you wish to have more details, I will email them to you.

Thanks,

Hello Deepak Kumar,

Further to the ground-level realities as mentioned by Dinesh Divekar, does VTS test for an individual's commitment to the job (meaning stability) and the integrity aspects of his/her psyche? Without getting into the terminology or nomenclature like BFSI, EPP, etc., I get differing feedback (often a 180-degree variance) from different vendors on whether such human traits can be evaluated using psychometric tests, be it during the hiring process or at any other phase of HR processes for an employee.

Regards,
TS
