Exploring Career Paths in Counseling: How Can I Transition from Finance to a Fulfilling Role?

I am pursuing my M.Sc. in Psychology from the University of Madras through distance education. I had spent 5 years in Training and Development, Counselling, etc. I have handwriting analysis skills as well. Additionally, I am pursuing my MBA in HR from Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar. However, I am currently working as a Senior Associate for Accounts and Finance, which is a different area altogether.

Can anyone guide me on the career prospects in Counselling? What could be my pathway to a bright career and future? Please, guide me.

I had been doing counseling for patients, students, and people in general. I did not have much in-depth knowledge about these different areas of counseling. However, this experience has made me think about my choices.

I have been counseling and supporting people who are depressed and suicidal for the past 15 years. For psychiatric counseling, you need to have a degree in clinical psychology. For other areas, it would be helpful to do a one-year course in counseling skills, which many institutes are offering.

Another way would be to join an NGO that focuses on counseling, such as 'Sumaitri' in Delhi. They provide good training, although it is more about befriending than counseling, but the experience is valuable.
