Duplicate PAN Cards: What Steps Should You Take to Resolve This Issue?

If anybody has two PAN cards with different numbers, what should they do? Please provide guidance on this matter.

Write to the issuing agency quoting both PAN numbers (send xerox copies). They will promptly cancel one.

Surrender the second PAN card after confirming with the issuing agency as mentioned above.

One individual can have only one PAN number, so you will have to surrender at least one because there is a penalty of Rs. 10,000 if you are caught with two PAN numbers. You can go to incometax.sparshindia.com and fill the online form for "change in PAN data."
