Want to know about the payroll and salary structure and drafting policy

muralikm2008
Hi Friends,

Today, I attended an interview for the position of HR Executive in the manufacturing sector. I wanted to learn more about payroll, salary structure, and policy drafting. During the interview, I mentioned that I handle HR recruitment, employee engagement, and admin work. However, I have not had experience in managing payroll, salary structure, or drafting policies. I am eager to learn about these aspects.

Please help me, friends, and guide me on how to handle payroll, salary structure, and other related tasks.

Thank you.

Hi Murali! Salary structure varies from industry to industry, but according to the Minimum Wages Act of 1948, it can determine the basic wages and dearness allowance. Then, we can add other allowances suitable for our industry. Additionally, you can find some payroll structures here for your reference.

Salary Structure Includes:
1. Basic
2. Dearness Allowance
3. House Rent Allowance (HRA)
4. Allowances like (Washing Allowance, Mobile Allowance, Special Allowance, Medical Allowance, etc.)
5. Conveyance

Deductions:
1. EPF
2. ESIC
3. Professional Tax
4. TDS
5. Any other deductions like (Loan, Advance, Misc)

Other Earnings:
1. Bonus
2. Incentives
3. Any Payments (Mobile, accessory)

Hello friends,

Is dearness allowance compulsory to be included?

Hi Guys!

If some company is working under the Minimum Wages and Contract Labour Act, they are using Dearness Allowance. However, under the Shop & Establishment Act, they are using House Rent Allowance (HRA) offensively in the salary structure. In any case, the salary should not be below the minimum wages.

Hello Murali, HR's core role is engagement, employee welfare, and drafting HR policies. How about considering outsourcing the payroll management to a vendor? We have been in the payroll space for over 15 years, and it would be good to explore the possibility of working together.

Dear Murali,

Payroll starts from attendance management and culminates at statutory compliance. Please confirm your part to be managed.
