New HR Manager in Rural Hospital: What Essential Steps Should I Take Beyond Basics?

H.R Freshers without training
Dear All,

I am working as an HR manager in a cancer hospital. This hospital has been newly opened, and it is in a rural area. My boss has asked me to handle HR responsibilities. Besides attendance and salary, what other things do I need to implement as an HR manager in a hospital? I won't receive any training here. I have completed my MBA in HR and graduated this year. I am in desperate need of help from seniors.

Thank you.

Focusing on Welfare Activities for Hospital Staff

We feel that being associated with hospital activities, it is quite relevant to focus on welfare activities for hospital staff. Occasionally, all the staff can be invited to contribute towards these welfare activities. You can discuss with them their personal problems if they wish to share, and make arrangements for some types of group activities and games during weekends. This will provide them with a much-needed break from the monotonous routine work.

As and when required, staff can be motivated to help the patients in innovative and unique ways that may be suitable for them as per their needs. In this way, your hospital will become more popular, and more business can be expected in the days to come.

First and foremost, take care of labor laws compliance. After that, handle joining and relieving formalities, employee engagement activities, and appraisals. You will find an exhaustive list on the internet.

Hi, you can create various forms necessary for the HR department, such as recruitment policies, leave policies, travel reimbursement policies for staff, induction and orientation processes, performance management system (PMS) procedures, and exit formalities.

Vision and formulate all HR policies and procedures. It is the most important step that needs attention. At the end, prepare an HR manual for management/employee referral.

Concentrate on the following areas:

- Recruitment and selection
- Confirmation
- Performance Appraisal
- Training and Development
- Employee Recreation
- Attending employee grievances
- Promotion
- Transfer
- Resignation/Retirement
