Navigating Future Job Prospects After Termination Due to Confidentiality Breach

Facilitator01
Hi All,

I would seek your assistance as one of my near acquaintances has been terminated from a big MNC due to inadvertently sending out some confidential information via email (breach of DLP policy) after diligently working for the employer for 2.5 years. What would be her future job prospects? Do organizations, especially larger ones like IBM, Wipro, Cognizant, etc., consider her for employment, or do they have defined policies against previously terminated employees? Kindly assist as the person in question is an honest, upright, and hard-working girl.

Thanks in anticipation.

Dear Facilitator,

Reply to your query would depend on the nature of discharge from the previous employment. Has your acquaintance been issued with a service-cum-employment certificate? If yes, then what reason have they mentioned for discharge from the service? If the discharge certificate is neutral, i.e., neither positive nor negative remarks, then getting a job should not be a problem.

Many times, MNCs tell the employees to resign when they discover a breach of security guidelines. Did they ask her to resign, or did they conduct a domestic inquiry?

Thanks,

Thank you, Dinesh, for your prompt reply.

She was terminated after the organization conducted internal forensics. She has received her experience letter; however, a relieving letter was not issued. The experience letter is neutral, but if a prospective employer conducts a background verification, they would know it was a case of involuntary exit, wouldn't they?

I would like to reiterate my query: Does she stand a chance of being gainfully employed with MNCs (especially the larger ones) if she includes this experience on her resume?

Any assistance is much appreciated, and your advice might help an individual salvage her career.

In case of termination for breach of confidentiality, her chance of getting a job in an MNC of similar nature is bleak. I assume she was in a banking-related BPO. They are required to conduct very detailed verification, and anyone with a breach history will be rejected or terminated upon discovery.

In addition, this may even be reported in the NASSCOM database.

On the other hand, if the existing organization does not wish to record the breach because it will create a legal liability for themselves, then she is safe. She won't know until she tries. Alternatively, she can change to a field where this problem does not exist.

Dear Facilitator,

There is nothing wrong in applying to any MNC, big or small, as she already has an experience certificate. During the interview, she may choose to tell the truth to HR to avoid any inconvenience in the future, regardless of whether that company conducts background verification or not. Let's hope for the best.

Regards,
Sarfaraz
