Returning to HR: How Can I Effectively Screen Candidates Over the Phone?

I am an experienced HR professional with 5 years of experience in Employee Relations. I quit my job 4.5 years ago due to marriage and having a baby. Now, I am planning to re-enter the workforce and have secured some freelancing opportunities. Since I have a background in Employee Relations, could you please share some templates and checklists that might be useful during this process? I have some upcoming phone screening sessions for a job that requires individuals with good reasoning and numeric abilities. Can you provide suggestions on how I can assess these skills effectively? Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Think about how you will find out if someone has good reasoning and numeric ability. Right, by answering questions which test these skills. Now, where do you get such questions? Google, quiz books, aptitude test books! Look up some 5-7 places, make a list of questions, preferably sort them by difficulty level, and then, voila, you are ready!
