We are in the construction industry and have projects in Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and Delhi. We are planning to have our own laborers for construction industry requirements such as Carpenters, Bar-benders, and Masons, etc. I would like to know the current daily/monthly wages paid to these workers in the construction industry in the respective places (Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore).

Understanding Minimum Wages in the Construction Industry

Employment in the construction of buildings and other structures is already included in the schedule of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, by various State Governments. Certainly, there would be a difference between the minimum wages and market wages. Given the spurt in the construction industry throughout the country and the dearth of experienced labor, the market wages would certainly be higher.

Therefore, it would be advisable for you to visit the websites of the State Governments of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, ascertain the minimum rates of wages fixed, and then decide on your own rates.

When you acknowledge the post of a senior, especially a person of the stature of a retired Additional Commissioner of Labour, you could have addressed him as "Dear Mr. Umakanthan" and not as "Dear Umakanthan."
