How is HRA Defined in Salary?
In India, HRA is not compulsory except in two or three states where there is an Act that makes the employer liable to pay HRA to employees under certain conditions. HRA is defined based on the Basic Salary component, a certain percentage of it. There is no specific law that mandates the payment of HRA as stated by our learned member Khaja Vali. Additionally, there is no law that specifies the exact percentage of Basic Salary, whether it should be 40% or 60% of CTC.
