Feeling Unfairly Treated by My Boss: Should I Speak Up to Her Supervisor?

bhatnagar.geeta@gmail.com
Dear seniors and friends, please suggest if I should talk about my immediate boss to her boss, as she is very partial to me. I trusted my immediate boss to think of my best interests, but she is too partial to me. Only two employees are working under her. She talks harshly to me, and at the time of increment, she submitted a request for one increment for me and two increments for the other employee, which got approved.

Please help me solve my problem.

Dear Geeta,

While we understood your perceptions, we need to understand your immediate boss's perceptions as well. Nevertheless, have you tried to understand what her perceptions are about you? Why is she partial?

Understanding Your Work Environment

What is your designation and what type of industry do you work in? Are you from HR? If you are not from HR, is HR in contact with you?

Evaluating Work Performance

Is your work free from errors? What are the quality issues in your work? What efforts did you make to reconcile your differences with your immediate boss? Whenever she scolded you, did you maintain records of those events? Does a pattern emerge from these records?

Accepting Criticism and Self-Improvement

There are a whole lot of articles on the internet on how to accept criticism with grace and appreciation. Did you read them? What is the scope of improvement in your behavior?

I know it is extremely frustrating to work under riling bosses; nevertheless, it is bad bosses that help you grow. Therefore, never let them get you down. At times there could be a basic personality difference between you and your immediate boss as well. To understand these differences, you need to have a deep understanding of MBTI.

There are so many questions associated with your post. Please answer the questions so that solutions can be provided once we receive all the information.

All the best!

Dineshji has given ample suggestions. I wish to state my views.

Team Dynamics and Reputation

There are four persons in the case referred by you: your immediate boss, your colleague, the superior to your boss, and yourself. What is the reputation of your colleague? Is that person acknowledged to be better? What is the basis of saying that your boss is partial? Does the superior to your boss know your capability and performance?

Please do introspection on these lines. You may get some clarity.
