Seeking Career Growth: What New Roles and Courses Suit an Experienced Secretary with an MBA?

kmdhassan
One of my friends, who is working as a secretary, wants to change his role. He has more than 5.2 years of experience in the Admin/Secretarial/Personnel department. He possesses an MBA (General), but now he wants to change his role to gain identity and growth.

Seeking Role Suggestions for Career Growth

Can you please suggest any suitable role which suits him for further growth? Also, please advise if any course could help him to make his new position better.

Regards.

If your friend is working as a secretary and wants to change his career path, then he should have been considered for this position. Why are you offering this position on his behalf? Could it be that you have created this opportunity for yourself but are referring to yourself as a "friend" to maintain anonymity?

In any case, your "friend" has a few options. He could transition into HR, Administration, Logistics, or the Purchasing department. You haven't accurately stated his qualifications. What does "MBA (General)" mean? What is his educational background?

I conduct training programs for secretaries, where I oversee the module on "career planning for secretaries." During these sessions, I assist participants in conducting a SWOT Analysis of their careers.

When considering a lateral move, advise your friend to explore opportunities within the same company. Changing careers is typically smoother within the current company rather than switching to a new one.

Wishing you all the best!

Change of career is rare but not uncommon per se. Just two days ago, I conducted a training program on "Improving Purchasing Negotiation Skills" in Delhi. Sitting in front of me was one of the participants who was an ex-HR professional. She completed her MBA in Strategic HR from a university in the UK. She mentioned that suitable jobs matching her background were not available, and she did not want to pursue other HR roles. Consequently, she contemplated transitioning into Supply Chain Management (SCM).

All the best to your friend.
