Dear Pratap,
As per your statement, If the company has issued you a relieving letter, then they should not be asking you the salary for the period which you have not served. Post issuance of exit documents, companies deduct any dues which is pending from the employee's side is always deducted from the employee's full and final settlement.
Has the company paid you your full and final settlement? If not then the company has full rights to ask you for payment of 3 months salary. If they have paid you, then you need to talk to them and settle a amount with them or pay them the entire amount as desired.
