Dear All,
I have already worked in some company in Personnel & Administration Department, where we went through all the Acts e.g. ID Act, Trade Union Act, Standing Order, PF, ESI, Payment of Wages Act etc. Also conducted domestic inquiry in some cases where the workmen were suspended on any misconduct. I know all these terms will be covered in IR. But where I am going to face the interview that is basically for Dy. Manager - IR, HR department is altogether separate there. I wanted to know what will be my role if I get selected. Because I have covered all the segment like Training and Development, Appraisal, Payroll, MIS, Disciplinary Action, Grievance redressal etc. but here I will be kept in Core IR. Need your advice and if there is any policy/functions, please forward me at [Login to view]

Hi Mr. shukla,
In HR fraternity it is generally observed that HR , IR is used as separate term but in my opinion HR is a holistic term where IR can be part of it. Basically, HR deals with relations , performance, engagement, employee satisfaction, transformations, HR strategies, talent management, L&D , OD so on...IR refers to harmonious industrial relations with respect to employee and employer which is core area of HR.
IR is generally referred to unionized environment of working dealing with trade union act, ID act and standing orders other areas related, in and around these statues apart from other labour statues.
Expectation from IR manager is to maintain balanced relation with unions, their grievances, welfare measures, long term settlement, strikes, lock outs, layoffs and disciplinary procedures so on ...
