Dear Ambsal,
Calendar management is predominantly secretarial activity. Nevertheless, it is important for managing one's personal calendar as well.
Secretarial or personal, calendar management would include:
a) allocation of meeting timings to avoid overlap
b) information to the parties involved in the meetings
c) visits to various departments
d) outstation travel that includes allocation of time for transportation
e) pre-travel activities
f) co-ordination of various activities or coordination with various stake holders w.r.t. visit to some places
g) reminders of all types (insurance policy payments, internal reports like monthly, quarterly returns etc)
h) Uploading on calendar various events such as birthdays, wedding anniversary etc
g) noting down where the various files are stored (about past meetings etc)
I use my Google calendar extensively. I have uploaded 1,500+ entries. I have synced this calendar with my mobile also. This helps me two way. The events uploaded in mobile's calendar get automatically transferred to Google calendar in the system and vice versa.
Calendar management is important tool of relationship management. Timely but simple SMS on birthday or anniversary helps in managing the relationship in big way. The recipient feels elated due to the precision with which we work.
Hope my above reply satisfies you.
Thanks,
