Is Haryana's New Minimum Wage Official Yet? Employers Push Back Amid Election Moves

Keeping in view of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and also to attract the workers' vote bank, last month, the CM of Haryana declared that effective from January 1st, 2014, the minimum wages for Haryana will be Rs. 8100/- per month.

I just wanted to know:

1. Regarding his decision, "Has the Government notification been received by any of the industries (through the labor department) or not?"
2. I also read that employers are opposing it and raising their voice through the employers' association.

The Government of Haryana has not issued any notification so far. Yes, Employers' Associations are opposing this increase. We hope that the Government of Haryana will adhere to the procedure as laid down under the applicable Minimum Wages Act of 1948 and the rules made thereunder on the fixation of revision of minimum wages for different scheduled employments.

Regarding Payment and Impact of Government's Decision on Industrial Relations

It means that any raw hand or inexperienced contractual worker (with a minimum qualification of Class 10) engaged on or after January 1st, 2014, will be entitled to receive Rs. 8100/- per month.

In the scenario where there is no increase in productivity and the minimum wages are raised by approximately 50%, what should be the amount paid to:

1. Contractual workers who have three, five years, or more experience.
2. SSK or skilled unionized operators who are part of the company's workforce.

The government's recent decision may once again disrupt industrial relations in the region.

Note: Before last year, almost all OEMs provided significant pay raises to their unionized workers. Due to their profit margins, OEMs could afford this, but it was challenging for their ancillaries to even offer a slight increase. It is also a fact that in today's highly competitive market, all OEMs employ various sales promotion schemes (such as off-season discounts) to stay competitive. Additionally, it is common practice that every ancillary, when dealing with any OEM, is required to enter a contract to reduce their product costs by at least 5% annually.

Dear Member, when the Government of Haryana has not increased or revised the minimum rates of wages since January 2014, then where can one provide you with the list of minimum wages for 2014 in Haryana? Please wait for some time.
