Many IT MNCs are indeed currently disqualifying experienced professionals based on low education percentages or GPAs, which is not an accurate method of assessing professional skills. By experienced professionals, I refer to someone with more than 2 or 3 years of professional experience.
The Real Issue in Recruitment Practices
The real issue is that HR professionals in MNCs in India seem to be focused on disqualifying the maximum number of candidates while working to finish within the deadline. The right focus for assessing experienced professionals should be on matching and selecting the best professional with the required skills for the position.
Education Criteria vs. Skill Assessment
Post-secondary education, particularly a bachelor's degree with a low percentage GPA, is a hard and non-negotiable criterion during the recruitment of experienced professionals in companies in India, without proper consideration of skill level, experience, and professional background.
Alternative Assessment Methods
Experienced professionals with a low education GPA should be considered for further qualification assessment through 1-on-1 interviews and panel interviews. The assessment should also be based on one or more professional skills, the quality of experience, the quality of the professional background, general attitude, team fit, professional certifications, and skill level ranging from Beginner to Expert, as well as interview performance. These assessments are not possible if the professional is disqualified in the initial recruitment stages due to low education percentage or GPA, or for a simple reason such as the candidate not being the best fit for the position.
HR Justifications and Policy Flexibility
When challenged, HR professionals will indicate that it is the standard operating procedure of the company or as per the company's written policy. It is true that policies and procedures are also prepared by company employees and by teams and committees within the company and are subject to change.
