Subject: Re: Eligibility Criteria for Interview
Hi,
It is possible that the area of work (which you do not mention) with 7 years of experience may not match the software company's position you are applying for.

No, the skillset was Java, and a walk-in was being conducted only for Java. So when I applied, the HR called and asked me whether I have 50% consistency in my academics or not. When I answered no, she said that is the minimum eligibility criteria and she can't proceed further, and then she hung up.

Most of the MNC companies are used to go through the career graph; but I hope experience would be quite beneficial for you. Further degree/qualification might be the key factor.

I have also been told the same thing. That is why I became extremely disappointed when I went through this. Is 7 years of experience and a B-Tech Degree not enough?
Is there any site where I can communicate with the HR of a Software MNC by chat or something who will be able to tell me what to do?

Dear Alladin1111,
After so many back-and-forths, I still could not understand your question. I am currently working as an HR Associate with the United Nations Development Program. I can assist you with interview tips and all phases of the process. However, it is crucial that you communicate your problem clearly and consistently. What specific things have disappointed you? Why were you not allowed to attend an interview? Have you discussed these issues with your line manager? It is essential for all HR practitioners to diagnose the problems first and then prescribe the solution.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you.

Dear Nejati80,
I am really sorry if I am unable to explain my question. But I don't understand what you mean by discussing with the Line Manager. My problem is extremely clear - I have 45% in 12th grade, but I have a first-class degree in BTECH and also 7 years of experience. Due to that 12th-grade percentage, I was not allowed to attend a walk-in interview at a reputed software MNC. Now, what I want to know is whether they will ever consider that situation or if this strategy will continue indefinitely. If this situation persists, I will not be able to work for any MNC.
I think I have explained my problem.
Regards.

Dear Alladin1111,
I had the same issue that you are facing 5 years ago. All you need to do is expand your skill set in various technologies. For example, if you say your skill set is Java, then consider developing your skills in freelance Android development or JSP development. Within a year or two, companies will come to you, and you won't need to reach out to them. This is exactly what happened to me. Now, I have a decent income as a freelancer, and I even have 5 employees working under me. I am unwilling to accept jobs that come to me from a few MNCs.
Being penalized for a lower percentage at a young age can be frustrating. There is no other way for you because companies have certain policies to restrict candidates. Some companies have a minimum criteria of 75%, while others accept 60%. There are even companies that offer jobs with a career-long 50% average, but for 45%, you need to prove yourself dramatically in the skill set you currently possess.
I understand your question about how to prove yourself without attending an interview. Yes, you can demonstrate your skills through various means such as freelancing activities and developing useful software or freeware. If you do this, I am confident that you won't need to reach out; you will become the destination.
Best Wishes

I have seen so many people with even 40% working for top MNCs. With a 45% score in 12th grade, you were able to get a job in the software industry, so why can't you get a job again? I just wanted to know if the current company you are working for (assuming 7 years is genuine experience) is at least a registered company. I know that having a 50% score throughout is the criteria for only one Indian MNC. Apart from that, most other companies have no specific criteria at all.

Dear Anonymoususer2013,
I am sorry I can't reveal the name of my current company, but the company in which I applied but was not allowed to sit for referral was CTS (Cognizant Technology Solutions). My experience is 100% genuine. Please refer to my previous posts as I am tired of repeating the same thing again and again. Otherwise, it would be great news for me, and obviously, if I get into an MNC, I will surely not waste my time posting here.
It would be kind of you if you could please name the only company which has a 50% throughout criteria.
Regards

I have seen many cases where the criteria are relaxed by big MNCs. First, they hire people as contractors, then make them permanent. Please do not name any specific company in this forum. Also, if you are chasing any specific MNC, best of luck; otherwise, there are many MNCs that do not have criteria at all. They just need experience. It also depends on whether you are working in support or development. For support jobs, the criteria are much more relaxed compared to a development profile.

Many IT MNCs are indeed currently disqualifying experienced professionals based on low education percentage or GPAs, which is not an accurate method of assessing professional skills. By experienced professionals, it would refer to someone with greater than 2 or 3 years of professional experience.
The real issue is that HR professionals in MNCs in India seem to be focused on disqualifying the maximum number of candidates while working to finish within the deadline. The right focus for assessing experienced professionals should be on matching and selecting the best professional with the required skills for the position.
Post-secondary education, a bachelor's degree with a low percentage GPA, is a hard and non-negotiable criterion during the recruitment of experienced professionals in companies in India, without proper consideration of skill level, experience, and professional background.
Experienced professionals with a low education GPA should be considered for further qualification assessment through 1-on-1 interviews and panel interviews. The assessment should also be based on one or more professional skills, the quality of experience, the quality of the professional background, general attitude, team fit, professional certifications, and skill level ranging from Beginner to Expert, as well as interview performance. These assessments are not possible if the professional is disqualified in the initial recruitment stages due to low education percentage or GPA, or for a simple reason such as the candidate not being the best fit for the position.
When challenged, HR professionals will indicate that it is the standard operating procedure of the company or as per the company's written policy. It is true that policies and procedures are also prepared by company employees and by teams and committees within the company and are subject to change.

Dear Alladin,
If you have the best skill set, no one will ask you about your education. Check the list below and let me know where you were asked for your percentage:
- Your internet service provider and connector
- Your computer repair person, hardware, and software repair person
- Your AC/electrical service provider and repair person
- Cycle repair person
- Your motorcycle mechanic
- Your bakery and cake supplier
- Your housemaid and cleaning staff
- Your door, window, glass, sanitary system, and all items fitter and repair person
The list goes on. Make your skills so good that people ask you for work, not for your degree. Increase your confidence level instead of attributing your failures to irrelevant points. No one cares about your marks if you have skills. Is it really an issue, or are you testing us all in this forum?
