How Do I Write a Compelling Salary Increase Request for a Long-Time Employee?

I am working with the company as a product manager. Last week, I met with our GM to request a salary increment for one of the employees working under me. He agreed that the current salary for the employee is unfair, so he asked me to send him a business case that he can share with HR. I tried to search online for a professional form to use in this case, but I couldn't find what I was looking for. While I found some guidelines, I feel they are not sufficient.

The employee has been working with us as a sales specialist for over 8 years, demonstrating very good performance, achievements, and a strong work ethic.

With the above in mind, I would appreciate a professional letter template to request a salary increment for this employee.
