Transitioning from Mechanical Engineering to HR: How Can I Successfully Make the Switch?

Kalyani.gorde
Hi, I am a Mechanical Engineer and I want to develop my career in the HR profession. How can I improve myself towards the HR profession? Can you give me some suggestions or important tips for my better development of a career in HR? What are the better opportunities in the HR field?

Thank you.

What is your total experience after your graduation in Mechanical Engineering? Have you worked in IT or manufacturing? Nothing is wrong with entering HR. However, for Mechanical Engineering, the allied diversification is into SCM. How is your inclination towards Maths? If you have a mathematical bend of mind, then rather than HR, SCM is the right field for you. You may think of taking a Diploma in OR from ORSI.

In fact, how good are you in Operations? I ask you this because I have trained hundreds of Mechanical Engineers and found that they have forgotten everything related to Operations.

I recommend you do a job market survey as well. My observation is that a Manager (Operations), Manager - Purchase, or Manager SCM draw a higher salary than Manager HR. Therefore, take the decision carefully.

Other seniors may give their opinions.

All the best!
