Effective Salary Negotiation Strategies for HR Professionals

rakeshmba
Hello Everyone....

Currently, one of the new candidates is asking about the salary, which is 25k per month. My company is offering him 22k. As an HR professional, how can we negotiate with him?

Thank you.

Dear Rakesh,

Normally, candidates negotiate by highlighting their strengths and positive points while discussing the salary package. Similarly, you can address the candidate's negative points and explain the situation to him. Furthermore, you can notify him that he has been selected with the understanding that he will demonstrate his capabilities through his performance. If he proves himself, any necessary revisions will be considered for the next appraisal.

Please follow our internal guidelines, salary matrix, ability to pay, internal parity, etc. It doesn't matter what the candidate is asking for; what matters is whether they are worth the salary based on their competencies, skills, and the aforementioned factors. If the candidate possesses extraordinary skills, you may seek special approval from management to accommodate their case.

Thank you, Rakesh, for sharing the outcome. I request you to keep the employees' satisfaction in view. I appreciate your ability to convince, but joining at a lower pay package than what he expected shouldn't breed dissatisfaction in the long term. Acknowledge his vision for his career with growth opportunities in the firm. He needs to see value in working for the firm and not lament or continue to look for higher packages. Wish you all the best. Congratulations once again.
