Hi, can anybody clarify for me the due date of PF remittance without penalty, whether it is the 15th or the 21st of every month? Many consultants advise us that we can remit until the 21st without penalty and until the 25th with penalty.

Many consultants advise us that we can remit payment until the 21st without penalty, and until the 25th with a penalty. Many suggest that there will be no penalty if payment is made by the 21st.

Today, the EPF-eSEVA portal is not opening.

Hi, can anybody clarify for me the due date of PF remittance without penalty, whether it is the 15th or 21st of every month? The date is 15 days from the last day of the preceding month, with an additional grace period of 6 days. Please refer to the PF Rules for better clarity.

Grace Period for PF Remittance

Statutorily, it is by the 15th of the following month, but there is a grace period of 5 days as per a very old administrative circular. This grace period should not be considered routine for all the months to come. Therefore, it is advisable to deposit the dues by the 15th of the month. However, one can avail of the 5-day grace period in case of a valid reason, with the condition that the RPFC will consider it as a delay of 6 days if deposited on the 21st.

As per rules:

PF Remittance Guidelines

1) The PF amount must be remitted to SBI by the 15th of every month. If the 15th falls on a weekly off/holiday, pay it by the last working day before the 15th to avoid any penalty/explanation. The grace period is given only in case of a genuine reason to the satisfaction of PF authorities but cannot be availed on all occasions.

2) Form 2 Submission

Form 2 (new joinee intimation) must be sent to the EPF office by the 15th of the next month. For instance, if someone joined in January, you have to inform the EPF authorities by the 15th of February.

3) PF Return Remittance Receipt

The PF return remittance receipt received from the bank (bank challan) must be sent to EPF authorities at the latest by the 25th of every month.

Hope I could give a little insight into your query.

It should be paid before the 15th only for the employer to receive income tax exemption. Otherwise, the employer will not get an exemption if payment is made before the 21st.
