One of our graduate engineer trainees, who has completed 6 months out of one year of training, wants one month of leave without pay to study for an exam. What is the right approach?
What is the duration of the training? Is the concerned Head of Department (HoD) in agreement with this, along with the Plant Head/Unit Head? Will gratuity be provided for this period?
The duration of training is one year. Yes, the Head of Department (HOD) agrees, but we have no provision or policy to support the same as of now. Graduate trainees (GET) are paid a monthly stipend, including all, with no perks or benefits. Gratuity and PF start after the completion of one year of training.
Have you appointed a trainee under the Apprentice Act? If not, you cannot deduct PF; otherwise, it is illegal.
