It's not necessary to read the book to communicate. Simple conversation makes you communicate more strongly. Just feel free and talk in your own way... speak, speak, speak much... so your fear will dissipate, and your communication will become stronger. HR is a self-motivator... don't give up on yourself.

It would help if you could provide us with more details about yourself, your company, and your query. Since you have posted on this forum, I assume you are an HR professional interested in conducting training for your employees.

Training is a remedy or an enabler, an assistance provided to someone to perform better. Each person will have an area in which he/she needs assistance. The supervisors should identify the tasks that each team member needs to accomplish, then make a list of the skills and knowledge required to accomplish the tasks. The team members should then be assessed on their current knowledge/skill level. Training should be conducted to bridge the gap between the required skill/knowledge level and the existing skill/knowledge level possessed.

The gap can pertain to technical skills or soft skills. Naturally, each employee's training needs need to be separately analyzed, and groups of employees with similar training needs can be addressed together.

There are various training programs available in the market, like medicines in a pharmacy. But you need to get the prescription first. Diagnose what the gap is and then look for a trainer or a training program.

Apart from normal induction and process training, we run a Buddy program in our organization for new joiners. The concept of the buddy program is to enable new joiners to be comfortable in a new environment and get acclimatized to the work while also having some fun.

A buddy (new joiner) is provided with a mentor. A mentor is someone of the same age and skill level but who has been with the organization for at least 6 months. The mentor does not need to be the immediate reporting boss but can be a senior colleague in the team. The rule is pretty simple: the mentor is the go-to person for the buddy for any work-related issues. This also gives a six-month-old employee a sense of responsibility and trust in the organization. We have also identified potential team leaders through this program.

A new initiative we recently implemented for a new trainee was having lunch with each member of the team individually. This helps the trainee bond with the team and vice versa. After having lunch with all team members, the team leader administered a small test to assess the trainee's understanding of their team mates and comfort level. By interacting with each team member, it helps facilitate clear communication and improve productivity.

Both of these activities have their pros and cons and may be challenging to implement in different situations. I suggest building on these initiatives and customizing them to fit your specific requirements.
