Planning Next Year's Training: What New Soft Skills and Value-Based Programs Should We Include?

Devan.Dev
We are in the process of preparing the training calendar for next year, starting from April 2013. Kindly suggest some soft skills, attitudinal, and value-based training programs with a different framework. I am looking to make changes in the program and add some new programs.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. Your suggestions are well taken. I need more inputs with reference to the following programs of your suggestion like Assertive Communication, Success Principles, Subordinate Development, and Leadership Paradigms.

The training calendar is created once the training needs are assessed. In your case, you wanted to create the calendar first and then execute it. However, in doing so, some important needs may be overlooked. So, what is your priority? Addressing the organization's critical concerns or incorporating "new" training programs into the calendar?

By the way, are you from the manufacturing industry or another industry? It would have been helpful if you had specified that so that I could provide more tailored advice.

Thanks,

I endorse Mr. Dinesh Divekar's exemplary views. I was not clear with your post as I couldn't understand the purpose of preparation for the Training Calendar 2013. I have one query for you: For whom do you want to prepare, and why? Kindly share more info about your current role, organization, etc.

Mr. Jacob had responded because he is operating a training academy. These programs are quite commercial and may not meet the organization's internal requirements unless a similar need arises.

It is well said, first please mention the type of industry you belong to. Then, the need for the training should be identified as:

1. Organisation-Centric
2. Department-Centric
3. Individual-Centric

Based on the above needs, first identify the requirements from all the departments approved and reviewed by the immediate superior and the head of the department. Your job ends once this is done.

Collate all the training programs in an Excel sheet and determine the maximum number of nominations for finalizing the training program. It can be kept in-house, or if there are few nominations, you can send them to an external agency.

The HR personnel have all the rights to add or neglect the programs based on their importance and how they will benefit the individual and the organization.

In addition to the mentioned needs, please add some basic training from the HR side such as First Aid, Firefighting, Safety, Communication Skills, Time Management, Secrets of Success, Motivation, Team Building, Excel Training, Zero Accident, Successful Supervisor, Interpersonal Skills Development Program, Outbound Training, Yoga, Stress Management, etc., to motivate the employees.

The training calendar is 99% complete now. Put all the finalized training in the planned month approximately with the nominations as identified in the Excel sheet. Provide a hyperlink to the nominations so that when you circulate the training program to the employees, they can view the nominations too.

The first page of the Excel sheet should be captioned as "TRAINING CALENDAR - 2013" with your company logo and a motivational picture.

I hope this information is clear.

Thank you very much for your replies. I observed a few things. I belong to the industry and have to complete the training process. I am working in the Power Sector PSU, which has a clear training policy that we adhere to. We have classified our training needs as Technical needs and Developmental Needs, with the need identification linked to Performance Appraisal/KPAs. In our organization, employees are classified into two groups - Executives and Non-Executives. Executives range from Junior to Senior level, while Non-Executives include Jr. Technicians to Sub/Jr. Engineers, along with Office/Clerical/Secretarial staff.

We have different projects throughout India, each with its own Employee Development Centre/Training Centre responsible for training needs and calendar preparation. The training calendar encompasses Individual needs and Organizational needs. This year, I aim to introduce new programs under the organizational needs category, focusing on soft skills and new developmental issues for both employees and the organization.

I appreciate the suggestions from SHB, Vanathi, and Dinesh, and I will consider them when finalizing the programs.

Devan
