I am currently pursuing my MBA in the 3rd semester in Bangalore with HR as my specialization. I am very keen to learn about the current openings in the HR industry. I would like to understand where to begin my career as I want to familiarize myself with all the procedures and steps of HRM. I am seeking your advice on how to plan for my career.

Human Resources is a broad field encompassing various functions such as payroll, compensation and benefits, training and development, recruiting, and more. If you want to learn about all the functions of HRM, it's best for you to start with a small company where the department is compact. This way, you would have a greater possibility of growth in your field. After spending a considerable amount of time in a smaller company, you could then decide which area of Human Resources you would like to specialize in and take the necessary steps accordingly.

Could we consider an IT company because many of the big ones still don't have a proper HR department? Alternatively, what about a consultancy as they specialize in activities like recruiting and training?

I am currently working in an IT company as an HR. The size of the company is small. I get to do almost all the functions of HR. It's tough, but I feel my chances of growth are better. I would have a greater opportunity to implement things and see their results in a small organization like mine.
