Should We Move the Humor Section Elsewhere? Let's Vote on Its Future!

There have been a lot of complaints regarding the Humor section in this community, and I would like to take a vote for the discontinuation of the Humor section. About 50 odd members regularly post jokes and shayaris in that section, and that section is pretty much used like a chat board.

So the question is: Should we discontinue the Humor section from CiteHR and move it to another domain?

I don't know how I skipped this discussion, but yes, thanks to Mr. Simhan for bringing this to my attention today (by https://www.citehr.com/437198-citehr...ml#post1979390). What I actually wanted to discuss or have been discussing with Mr. Sid and other moderators for a long time.

I have objected to many postings such as poems, shayaris, and jokes by members on this professional platform because I really care about this place and love it a lot. I know what this place has given me, the values it holds for me, and to my noble profession that I belong to. Therefore, I deserve the right to object to things that can have a negative impact, be bothersome to me and others, or go against the seriousness of professionalism, or I would say, distract me.

I have discussed the same at length with Mr. Sid and other moderators earlier too and would like to share my thoughts on the same as I have another chance to do so through this thread specifically.

First, let me bring something to your attention, my dear mates, that is really important before I continue. I believe there is something given to us by the Administrator right at the top of the page "Browsing Knowledge Base | Why Engage Here? | Testimonials" which gives us the whole picture and motive of why we are here and what needs to be done. We are connected to each other with a purpose that truly matters because of it.

Every single person/member on this platform came here with a purpose that no one can deny. I came here with a purpose and started communicating. I found many things to learn and started learning, I got a chance to share myself, my experience, and knowledge with all of you and started doing so. I'm sure all of you also came with your own purpose.

And I bet there is no one who came here solely for the purpose of creating or having fun on CiteHR. Therefore, if one came to this place to learn, share, seek something related to career/profession, knowledge, and professional development, how can one indulge themselves in humor and get distracted? For this purpose, we have Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Ibibo, and other social/gaming and fun sites that we can use or are using, so one is not supposed to mix our professional life with social life, in my opinion.

This is my reason for OBJECTING to posting Poems, Shayari, Jokes.

Second, many of you know the meaning of the logo of our page CiteHR that clearly speaks about career/professionalism, skills, knowledge, learning, and seriousness. Those who are still not aware should visit https://www.citehr.com/424509-new-logo.html.

Finally, if we realize the purpose and motive of us and the value of this place that we love the most, we are not supposed to do anything that deviates from the right path.

We know humor is also a very important thing and has value in our lives, but we also know that we are living our social/personal and professional lives together but must maintain a balance. Motivational, confidence-boosting, and similar posts can be accepted, but Shayaris, poems, jokes that are just for fun and nothing else should not be allowed on a PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE BASE PLACE - CITEHR.

I hope I have made myself clear on this topic and again request you, Mr. Sid (CHR-Administrator), and other moderators to address this issue.

I take a different stand from Anil. If the humor is mild and related to HR, there is nothing wrong with having limited postings here. Humor is also an essential ingredient for hanging out. Even some serious movies may not hit the box office if the humor part is missing. However, the humor section should not dominate this forum. Some beautiful PPTs (which I used to post sometimes) are essential for relaxation. Anyway, I go with the majority opinion.

You are right, but unfortunately, the kind of posts that were made were not appropriate and resulted in hundreds of thousands of people feeling out of place. Many were treating the forum as their personal chat window, alienating others. You could have fun there, but you had to belong to that group of people. That limited the number of people who felt comfortable in that section.

The New HumoR Section

The new HumoR section will be fun for more people and will continue the tradition of the laughter and fun section.

I am in favor of the HR Humor Forum. Sometimes, we also need some relaxation, as in an action movie, with some humor. We are always living in tension and almost forget to laugh on some days. We need the Humor section, and further, we can make some strict rules that the threads/posts being uploaded must be only in English. Further, transliteration can also be banned. Only original English should be used, and other vernacular languages typed in English can also be restricted. Instead of removing the forum, you can make it so that vernacular language usage will be removed/moderated.

One thing I would like to remind everyone here is that we are talking about a professional knowledge base community, not a social site like Facebook or Myspace.

“Sometimes we also need some relaxation, like in an action movie, where there is some humor.” But my dear mates, we must not forget that if one really needs relaxation or a break while posting or responding to threads here, they can use the technology we are surrounded by. You can play games on your PC, use Facebook, go to other gaming sites, or step away for a few minutes to chat with colleagues or friends. Almost everyone uses the internet on their mobile devices, which keeps us occupied all the time and helps us relax by playing games on it. However, the excuse and reasons to circulate and have fun by posting jokes and humor on CiteHR is something I personally can't support.

I beg your pardon, but I am sharing what I feel and what I actually want for this place that I love and care for personally. I defined in my first response why we need to remove this humor section (not motivational or inspirational quotes or material, but jokes, poems, and shayaris).

Whenever I feel like I need a break or relaxation, I take little rest pauses and have friendly conversations with my colleagues, use Twitter, Facebook, BBM, and I believe that is enough.

Rest assured, I am also with the majority opinions.

As mentioned by Mr. Arora, CiteHR is for knowledge sharing, and humor can be set aside. If you are not inclined to log into Facebook or other social sites, you can seek humor on the internet.

Purpose of the Platform

Humor can be found anywhere, but I believe this platform is intended for a specific and distinct purpose. It can be frustrating at times to navigate threads that have their own conversations, especially in different languages. Not everyone is familiar with all languages.

Remember, you are here for a purpose. Make the most of this platform by focusing on fulfilling that purpose rather than seeking entertainment. There are experienced seniors here to share knowledge and assist juniors. Let's show them the respect they deserve and utilize the site optimally.

I too agree that having some humor and motivational stories can be beneficial, as they often become part of a training session. In a class, trainers also share motivational stories to encourage the team. Both play a significant role in human life. Without them, life can be quite tense, so why not keep this ALIVE here and share HEALTHY HUMOR AND MOTIVATIONAL STORIES.

This forum is for knowledge sharing, and that is how it should be maintained. If one wants to change the flavor or mood, they have the option of many sites. HR humor in this forum can be done away with. Anyways, we are a democracy, and let the majority rule.

If anything is done within limits, it is always appreciated! In this case, if the humor is clean and worth reading, I find no reason for leaving it. However, I do see a few jokes that are not meant to be funny. I guess a moderator could filter these rather than the whole idea of removing them.

I understand what you all are thinking and wanting (those who are not in favor of discontinuing the Humor Section), but I have clearly defined myself and the purpose of this discussion. I have explained the reasons that led us to discuss this topic and put our Administrator/Moderators in a situation to take action. We started this thread to discuss with all members what we should do to maintain professionalism on a professional site. We need to take action so that we can prevent CiteHR from becoming a social site where people are having fun, making social connections, and passing time.

I just want to preserve our PROFESSIONAL space for career guidance and discussions on our daily professional life. For humor and fun, we have many websites and options that we can use anytime, but not every website serves the role that CiteHR plays for us. The purpose and motive with which we came to this place and started using CiteHR have changed for many people, and that is exactly what I want to remind you all.

Hope now you all can understand.

Can We Use CiteHR for Its Original Purpose?

For a minute, stop thinking about humor and start thinking about professionalism. Why did we join CiteHR? What was the purpose at the time of joining? What were the things we wanted, and why did we start communicating with each other? Express yourself with these answers, and I'm sure you will find the same understanding that I am conveying here to all of you.

At work, we all do our work and have friendly discussions/chats with our colleagues. I agree with all of this, but we must not forget that while working, WE DON'T EVEN ALLOW ANYTHING/ANYONE TO BOTHER US and prefer to focus on our work only.

This bothering is actually the problem here.

Continuation of the Humor Section

We will continue the Humor section as a place for sharing jokes and anecdotes. However, any kind of chatting that is unrelated to the content or makes the forum feel like a chat window will be removed.

When such posts are found, and if there are hundreds of such posts in the user's account, the account will be purged of all existing posts. As mentioned before, we do not have the manpower to sort out individual posts of user accounts that are, in any case, violating the rules.

Addressing the Humor Section Issue

Deleting the humor section can't be a solution. Although, even after giving many suggestions, warnings, and instructions, members continue to post jokes that are not suitable for this site. Some members have even been banned. Only moderation can address such issues. Currently, some posts are being deleted quickly, which is a good sign.
