Do companies provide payslips to contract employees? If yes please send across the general format of the same

Hi, I joined a company on a contract basis with a salary of $30,000 per month. Every month, a check of $27,000 (194j - 10% deduction) was given to me. Now, the contract is about to expire. I have submitted my profile to job portals, but the emails I am receiving from companies are asking for my latest payslips or clarification on whether it is a contract or permanent position. When I inquired about the payslips from my company's HR, she informed me that they do not provide payslips for contract employees.

I have several queries that need clarification:

1) Do companies typically provide payslips to contract employees? If so, could you please provide the general format of the payslip?

2) If I am unable to obtain payslips, would a letter from HR detailing my salary information suffice for interviews?

3) During a recent walk-in interview, I was eliminated at the initial stage of the screening process despite presenting a letter from the HR department outlining my salary and tenure. How should I approach such situations in the future?

4) Does being a contract employee impact the frequency of interview calls I receive?

I urgently need assistance on these matters. Thank you for your help.

If somebody is engaged in any organization on a contract basis as you had mentioned, then the organization doesn't issue any payslip as everything, such as the duration of the contract and compensation, is specified in the contract itself. The contract serves as sufficient documentation for attending the interview.

1. Generally, companies do not issue pay slips to contractual employees as it could indicate a connection, and they may be compelled to transfer that person to their regular payroll (refer to the Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act 1970).

2. Yes, if a competent HR professional is willing to certify your salary, it should be sufficient.

3. A company, when hiring, will consider the best candidate available. You'll agree that a regular job is valued more than a contractual one.

4. It depends on the type of job, the sector, and the company. For instance, in IT, Advertising, Hotel & Leisure industry, Journalism & Media, etc., a contractual assignment/job may not have any adverse impact. However, in traditional sectors and certain positions, it could have a significant impact, as you already mentioned.

I am differing with your statement: "Generally, companies DO NOT issue pay slips to contractual employees - as it would prove a nexus, and they may be forced to take that person on their regular roll (see Contract Labour (Regulation & Abolition) Act 1970)." Even the Contract Workmen engaged through a Contractor are also to be issued with the pay slip by the Contractor and not by the Principal Employer. The format is available in CL Rules 1971 - Form 19 and in Minimum Wages Rules - Form 4E.

As per Mr. Venkatesh's statement, he is receiving a cheque for Rs. 27,000 every month. To prove his salary receipt, he can even produce the Bank Statement and the Contract Document issued by the employer during the Walk-In Interview.

I am currently working as a consultant on a contractual basis (Automation Testing) in Hyderabad. The company directly recruited me on a contractual basis, and the contract ends in December 2012. From now on, I will carry all the documents for safekeeping:
1) Offer Letter.
2) Bank Statement.
3) Form 16.
4) IT Returns Verification form.
5) I will take a photocopy of the check issued to me from now on.
6) Salary Certificate issued by the HR Department.
