Is HR Really More Rewarding in Manufacturing Than in Services? Share Your Experiences

Hi, this is Dichloro. I have very frequently heard that the manufacturing sector offers a wider scope for HR-related activities than the services sector, as the former provides a more solid and stable progression for your career. You get ample opportunities to learn on a broader scale compared to service sector firms. Is it true? (Here, let me be clear that I respect the dignity of everyone's labor and am not underestimating the importance of any sector to the GDP). What is your experience with this? Only sensible replies, please!

I also feel the same. Most companies look for HR professionals with experience in plant operations, mainly from the construction, manufacturing, and chemical industries.

Hi, it is true that experience in manufacturing counts. It's also true that the workings of the HR department in manufacturing sectors differ from those in the service sector. The HR department in the manufacturing sector faces challenges due to the diverse workforce. We encounter people from various walks of life with differing mindsets and attitudes. Addressing all the needs of employees and employers while maintaining equilibrium is key to the success of the HR department.

The Role of Creativity and Effectiveness in HR

The work of the HR department largely depends on its ability to be creative and effective in persuading the masses. Designing policies, maintaining discipline, leaving no room for conflicts, and addressing individual problems (both work-related and personal) are some of the important tasks.

It is true. Moreover, compliance is higher in manufacturing than in the service sector, as typically in the service sector, all of these functions are outsourced.

When exploring your career field, there are many areas to improve oneself in the service sector. However, in the manufacturing sector, you will gain face-to-face experience in every area. The manufacturing industry has a variety of people, from workers to top management. This means you will gain experience from the ground level to a highly competent level.

In the service sector, there are limitations to work and a lot of routine tasks.
