Hi, if ESI is applicable to a particular person, then ESI will pay the wages for that employee.

I would like to add one more thing: the ESIC will bear the maternity benefits only for those ESI-covered employees whose maternity benefits accrue during their benefit period. This means that for a new employee, the benefit period will start after nine months of joining the scheme. The ESIC will not pay maternity benefits if the date of delivery is before nine months of joining the scheme. In such cases, the employer should cover the costs, even if the employee is covered by ESI.
