I would like to add one more thing, that if the ESIC will bear the maternity benefits only in respect of those ESI covered employees whose maternity benefits accrue during her benefit period. That means since for a new employee, the benefit period will start after nine months of her joining the scheme, the ESIC will not pay maternity benefits if the date of delivery is before nine months or her joining the scheme. In such cases, the employer should pay it even though she is ESI covered employee.
