Hi Vinay,
Good to discuss what you have achieved in your profession. Well, I am from a science background, but my experience has always been in public relations. I worked as a counselor/students' administrator. After a gap, when I am back in the market, I see a new term in the market... HR, human resources. Good to hear that.
I have joined a small consultancy as a recruiter, and I have learned a lot, especially studying the psychology of a person: behavior, personality, stability, interests, zeal, attitude. It was not just marketing that was involved - screening the candidates, filtering them, and promoting the client to close their requirement. A lot of convincing, selling the brand, and much social interaction. It was just like sending soap.
When I got into a small firm as an HR in a generalist role, it is entirely different. You are the focal point, starting from preparing job descriptions to policy-making, payroll, leave management, recruitment. It's different. In just one year and 8 months of whole HR and recruiting experience, I have achieved a lot of satisfaction, patience, changed my perception towards the situations, learned how to be bold and assertive, diplomacy, learned to say NO with a smile, learned to understand others' problems, and come out with convincing solutions. It's just like managing a home (family) but here with many kids. Yes, the same resource planning, budgeting, cost-cutting, counseling, empathy, motivating, except for cooking, the rest all are just the same. I STRONGLY FEEL OUR MOTHERS ARE THE BEST HR MANAGERS. Let me not deviate from the topic. YES, I HAVE ACHIEVED A LOT. NOW I HAVE ACHIEVED CITE HR FRIENDS TOO. THEY ALL ARE JUST AMAZING. I am happy with what I am today. That is what all matters in the end.
Sari :P
