How To Insert Today's Date In Mail Merge?

Mayur Shinde HR
Guys,

Does anyone know how to insert today's date in a mail merge document? Additionally, how can we attach a document/sheet to mail merge recipients?

Mayur,

One thing you can do in the reference cell of Excel is to type =TODAY() and then use the same reference in mail merge. Hope this will work.

Hi Mayur, please right-click on the reference cell and select "Date" in formatting. The dates will appear in the desired format. I think this will help.

When we mail merge the date column with a doc file, the mm-dd-yy format appears. Can we change this format to dd-mm-yy in the Word mail merge doc?

Dear Mayur Shinde,

While creating the Excel data, change the date field to text format so it will appear as it is in the mail merge. Right-click the date cell, and go to format, then select text in the category.

Dear Mayur,

You can also use Field to create your own date formats and insert them in the document. In Word 2007, the option is available under Insert -> Quick Parts -> Field -> Date. In the Date Formats text box, type dd-mm-yy.

Guys,

None of the above works as desired. The format in the Word document appears as mm/dd/yy, and what I expect is MMMM, DD, YYYY.

Dear Mayur,

I have tested your date format string (MMMM, DD, YYYY) and it's working fine using the Field code option. Please check once again.

Regards,
Antony.

Antony,

As per your instruction, I can insert MMMM, DD, YYYY in a Word doc, but I cannot mail merge that field from an Excel sheet. It comes in a different format..

Sorry, now I only understood your exact problem. Please try the following solution:

Right-click the date field in Word and select Edit Field Option. Then, click the Field code button located at the bottom left of the dialog box. It may show a field code string in a box like "MERGEFIELD Date."

In my Excel sheet, I used the field name "Date." In your system, it may be different. Insert the text below after Date: @ "MMMM, DD, YYYY"

The final field should be "MERGEFIELD Date @ "MMMM, DD, YYYY"

Now, click the OK button and check the output.

Dear Mayur,

Have you found the answer to your second question? How can we attach a document/sheet to mail merge recipients? We can do it programmatically. If you need any assistance, please contact me.

Best Regards,
Antony.

Please do this on your PC as shown:

Go to Control Panel > Date, Time & Language Option > Regional and Language Option > Customize > select Date Tab and change the DD-MM-YY option in Short date format.

Hope this will be useful.

To insert the date in a Word document, click on "Insert," then choose "Date & Time," and select the desired date format. Alternatively, in an Excel sheet, you can input the full date by preceding it with an apostrophe ('). For example, '13 June 2012.

The below step would insert today's date in the required format:

1. Insert any field from the base data field on the Mail Merge Template.
2. Right-click the field and select Edit Field.
3. Under Categories, select the Date & Time Option.
4. In the Date Time Text Box, enter dd-MM-yy.
