Does Being Unemployed Affect Your Salary Expectations? Let's Discuss!

Dear Site Members and Seniors,

I have come across profiles where the person has been without employment for around 1-2 months because of several reasons like exams, delay in payment of salary by their employers, in search of better prospects, and so on. These profiles have reasonable skills and experience as per the requirement. However, when I check about their salary expectations, they quote figures in the same line as persons in employment. Does the market value of the person who is not employed reduce, or is he justified in asking for a higher salary than what he was drawing before?

My understanding is that the market value either remains the same or reduces. Please respond with your point of view. Awaiting replies.

Every candidate has the right to quote their salary in an interview. They are exercising their right. Who decides their value? They have the right to decide their own value. This is their perception.

Job Market Perceptions

Today's jobs are quite exasperating. To avoid burnout, if someone takes a break, does it mean he/she reduces market value?

Your perception may be different. If you can afford it, go ahead and hire the candidate. Otherwise, look for someone else!

Improving Interview Skills

Your real problem is your inability to assess the worth or worthiness of the candidate. Try to improve your interviewing skills. A seasoned interviewer can very well see through the game.
