Do Canteen Contractors Need a License Under CLRA Act for Over 20 Employees?

Prashant B Ingawale
Dear Seniors, If the company makes an agreement with a Canteen Contractor to supply food, the employees of the Contractor come within the premises to serve the food/meal during lunch and dinner, and leave the premises after lunch and dinner.

License Requirement under CLRA Act

If the number of such employees is more than 20, is it required for the Canteen Contractor to have a license under the CLRA Act? My query arises because the principal employer only avails the services of the canteen contractor per person, and the principal employer does not control the work of the contractor's employees.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Prashant, I hope you have the contract labor license. The canteen workers can also be covered under your license, and they do not need to have any separate license. Please ensure that the canteen workers are screened and undergo a medical checkup. If they have not been cleared in the medical test, please arrange for it and ensure they have the food handler's medical certificate.

Dear Sir,

I want to know what type of documents are required for a contractor to set up a new canteen at a manufacturing plant. I need this information as I am planning to open a new canteen through a contractor. Could you please provide me with the details of the documents needed for this purpose?

Thanks,
