Suddenly Transferred to HR: What Are the Key Responsibilities I Should Know?

Tarannum@janani.org
I have completed my MBA in Marketing and have worked for 5.5 years in sales. However, last year, I was transferred to HR without receiving any training or orientation about the HR department from the organization. I would like to understand the major job responsibilities of the HR department.

Kindly assist me.

Reg "Major Responsibilities of the HR Department":

Tell me, did you not cover HR as a function in your basic MBA? You could refresh from your old books to get the theoretical direction. Additionally, after working for 5.5 years, the practical experience can also come in handy.

Suppose you were running the sales department—what would you expect from an HR department to do for you? Recruitment, selection (with a defined methodology), compensation, employee benefits (motivation for them to continue to meet sales targets), and training people in sales (product, sales skills, training about the market they are operating in, etc.).

I am deliberately leaving this thought with you so that you could ponder deeper on it and keep thinking yourself.

If that doesn't help, you may search for "major responsibilities of HR" at CiteHR. Some links for your ready reference:

The list could go on...

All the best
