Comprehensive Discussion on Work-related Back Pain and Occupational Health Concerns

asudhir17
Dear All,

About 60% of illness cases are caused by backache problems. We have discussed a lot about Yoga, exercises, etc. You may have read these PowerPoint presentations earlier, but I still feel it is worth refreshing. Some more tips are attached in the presentation. They may be useful for self-care as well as for training purposes.

Regards,
Sudhir

Dear Sudhir,

The attached presentation will help to refresh us, especially Slide #8 to Slide #16 (The force involved) explained in a simple way. Slide #30, "Mattress," we had the same problem in our camp 2 years ago; most of them got back pain. We then changed all the old mattresses (I don't remember the old mattress name) to Lido Mattress.

Thanks for your presentation.
Keep on sharing. . .

Thank you, Mr. Sudhir. It is a timely presentation. From 22 September onwards, I have been suffering from low back pain, further hospitalized, and then had 2 months of bed rest. Recently, I resumed my duties. Surely, I will follow the instructions given in the presentation. Your concern for our health is truly amazing. Keep on sharing, Mr. Sudhir. God bless you, dear.

Me too facing the same problem for a long time. Could you please share how doctors treated your problem? I mean, was it surgery or some exercises on a regular basis? Yes! This presentation is really helpful. Thanks!!

Dear Saunee,

Initially, I felt pain while wearing my dress after bathing in the morning hours. However, I neglected it and kept going to the office for about 8 days. When the pain became intolerable, I went to the hospital and consulted an Orthopedic Surgeon. He advised me to have bed rest and undergo an MRI scan. The MRI scan revealed that there was compression in my spine in 4 places (C5-C6, D12-L1, L4-L5, and L5-S1), and the L4-L5 disc was torn. The doctors recommended bed rest, and I stayed in bed for 2 months. Currently, I am only doing exercises and not sitting continuously for more than 30 minutes. I have already lost 3 kg, and I am aiming to lose at least another 10 kg to maintain my health and well-being.

I would suggest consulting a good doctor who can provide better advice.

Mr. Sudhir,

Nice presentation. It's an eye-opener for all those who work more than 8-10 hours a day sitting on a chair without doing any exercise and even avoid small, important tips that could help for a healthy life.

Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing the presentation. I am yet to open and look at it; hence, no comment as yet on the content.

Backache and other musculoskeletal diseases are not included in the list of occupational diseases in Indian laws - may it be the list of NOTIFIABLE diseases in the Factory Act or the list of diseases for which compensation may be claimed in the ESI Act and E.C. Act. There is a need to make a demand with the labor ministry to accept the ILO list of Occupational diseases as revised in 2010, which is very comprehensive.

Dear Sudhir,

I have seen the presentation. My only suggestion is (Pl. refer Slide #3), when you provide data, please give a reference to the source or country for which the data is from. In the absence of it, some may mistake it as Indian data. Also, please add what I have already mentioned - it is not a compensable or notifiable disease.

As requested by you, I am attaching the ILO list as revised in 2010. It is also available on the ILO site.

Thank you.

It is the work organization that needs to be attended to rather than asking individuals to do yoga exercises. Yoga is good for everyone, but the workplace need not compel one to do yoga for its own benefit.
