Why Were My Forum Posts Deleted? Seeking Guidance on What Went Wrong

yash0426@gmail.com
Dear all, I have recently posted some questions on this site, but without any proper reason, they have been deleted. Please help me with this. Whom should I ask? And why were they deleted? Did I make any mistakes in posting them? Hope this post will not be deleted.

Please share a little about your posts. Moderation is limited by the rules and regulations. There can be no reason to delete your post if you were abiding by them. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Dear Yash, your 156 posts are already available. Please check them through the blue bar at the top. Click on "Account," and in the drop-down menu, select "My Subscribed Discussions." You will be able to see all your posts and the links to all the threads where you have replied.

Wishing you all the best.

Your posts were never deleted without reason. I just checked, and you have been making multiple posts on the same topic either in the same forum or different forums. Multiple postings are not allowed. Please understand your duties and responsibilities before you demand your rights. Follow the rules before you complain.

Dear OCTAVIUS, I understand that, but at least you should have informed me about it. I only realized lately...!!! It's not about demand; please be kind in replying...!!! Your words are a bit rash...!!!

anil.arora
It's good that you realized this mistake and the rules of this place that no one is allowed to post multiple threads/posts. Multiple posts create lots of problems for people in need of something or looking for any material or help. They end up receiving numerous posts on the same topic, leading to confusion and difficulty in finding specific answers, materials, and required information. You can understand this, right?

Regarding Your Questions and Deleted Posts

I would say that it doesn't matter how many threads you have posted. What truly matters is what you have contributed, learned, and shared in this esteemed place. We are all here for this special purpose. I hope you get my point. Please repost all your questions in a single thread and let other members and seniors know how they can assist you.

I just checked a few and have deleted your posts, providing the reason as "Multiple posts." Please do not expect us to notify you personally.

General Advice to All Members

Please do not comment on how people have responded in the general forum. If you have issues, please address them in a private message.

Have a nice day.

My idea was only to send very clear, crisp, straightforward information that you demanded; the rest of whatever came along with it can be considered complimentary. There are about a few lakh members in this forum, and if you expect that every person will be informed before their post is deleted, then it is too high an expectation from moderators.

Lastly, you gave me a chance to be harsh. If you had read the forum rules and regulations properly and followed them, I wouldn't have ever had a chance to comment on anything.

Dear Super Moderators,

I have a piece of advice for all moderators of this forum. Please be assured that "Neither am I supporting any member nor taking the Moderator's side." It's neutral information. Also, I didn't intend to hurt anyone. I hope no one will be offended by my message, as we are all highly mature personalities. I thought perhaps it's worth posting here.

Mistakes and Learning

1) Human beings are born to make mistakes, and we learn from ours and others' mistakes as well. I am sure most members of this forum haven't read the rules and regulations at https://www.citehr.com/231-rules-reg...#axzz1W7D5QwVw. It's a human tendency that "rules are meant to be broken or always broken." I know that rules and regulations are updated as time progresses. There should be a visible option in this forum to highlight the importance of rules and regulations, as a huge amount of information is posted every day.

Communication and Feedback

2) If any moderator has deleted a thread for specific reasons, please notify the member via a short private message. This helps them learn and understand whether they met the norms for posting information in this forum and realize where they went wrong. I agree that "none is perfect in this world," including myself, but there is a process called "being perfect," and it is a never-ending, continuous process.

Confidential Information

3) On the home page, please provide an option or link for members to post "highly confidential information" to moderators if it is not allowed to be posted in the forum due to a violation of rules and regulations. It may take time to respond to them as most threads are left unnoticed.

Role of Moderators

4) Every moderator should play the role of an educator. There is a huge difference between a moderator and educators because, along with authority, educators leave a long-lasting memorable impression by helping individuals learn effectively, with examples.

5) We can't expect everyone to be perfect in this world and to have a personality with a "down-to-earth attitude," but a moderator should exemplify a "down-to-earth attitude" and be a good educator. This will help members learn from our moderators as they are chosen for a specific role.

Please consider my advice from a "positive perspective." You will find a beautiful encoded message.

Forgive me if I am wrong and do correct me as well.

With profound regards,
octavious
I am sorry, but I beg to differ. If the philosophy of "rules are meant to be broken" is applied in a real sense, then life would be nothing but a puzzle with no answers, and society would become a Babylon (literature meaning of Babylon being a land of vices).

Please understand that it is not possible for any moderator on this forum to send any kind of private messages to any person when his/her post is deleted.

The Role of Educators and Students

Educators are created by students, and not the other way around. What kind of students do you believe we will create out of people when we fail to insist on the importance of following the normal rules and regulations of the forum?

Not only moderators, but many senior and junior members have always been part of knowledge sharing. Why should any member resort to spoon-feeding? People thirsty for knowledge can come, join, search for knowledge, and nobody is stopping them.

Highlighting Rules and Regulations

I agree with your view that there is a need for highlighting the option of rules and regulations. This has already been brought to the attention of CHR.

Also, kindly remember, this is a free forum and many options that members think should be there cannot be included due to the huge cost involved. Also, kindly be informed that most of the moderators here are moderating the forum on a gratuitous basis and not for monetary benefit. In fact, there is no monetary benefit.

Moderators and Members

If you compare the number of moderators against the number of members, you will find that moderators are very few in comparison to members.

Why don't members here come forward and be a moderator for some forum? This way, things will be easier, and people will understand how and why things are the way they are.

Attitude and Relevance

Believing that you have been talking about a down-to-earth attitude regarding my reply to Yash, please be informed that I have my attitude in place. It's just that I am least worried about being called brash for doing my work honestly and with diligence rather than being blamed for being a sleeping and complacent authority.

My attitude is purely situational and changes from person to person.

Either positive or negative comments are good because they show that I am still relevant.

Dear Moderators, can't we have a few more quick instructions on "Not to post multiple threads/posts" under "Posting Guidelines" below the text bar? We already have two as follows:

(Posting Guidelines:
- Do not post anything derogatory about any company or entity.
- Do not copy and paste - when referring to any article on the internet, post a link to the article along with a short excerpt and your comments.)

Request to Add:

# Do not post multiple threads/posts

# Request to use the "reSearch" option for your query and question before posting anything

This would be the best solution for this, and I request you all not to stretch this topic further.
octavious
I and the other moderators have already informed CHR about the same. In the coming times, I believe things as suggested above will be included. Also, I have not found any comments in the aforementioned threads to be highly derogatory. It's just that we are now being firm in requesting members to follow the rules and regulations, as well as emphasizing the concept of members helping themselves.

Thank you for your feedback.

I agree with you! I was wondering about the new members who join here; they might get lost on the site, and I have seen many new members post threads in the wrong place. You can't ignore everyone. As HR professionals, we carry a high amount of positivity and approach things in the right way. I believe all moderators should approach things positively, but only a few of them do.

skhadir
I appreciate your reply, and I am sure there is a specific reason for responding to my suggestion/advice posted as "INDIVIDUALS PERCEPTION LEVELS DIFFER." As said in my previous post, it's just a piece of common advice, and I am not targeting any moderator. I have learned many things from this community, and I am still learning every day.

Personal Growth and Realizations

I want to share something with you all. Once upon a time, I used to be a very "SHORT-TEMPERED PERSONALITY" because I love a SYSTEMATIC APPROACH. All the time, I wanted employees to avoid committing even "SMALL MISTAKES" and strictly follow PROCEDURES & PROCESSES for better productivity. One fine day, I realized that "HUMANS ARE BORN TO MAKE MISTAKES, NO MATTER IF THEY ARE EXPERIENCED, MATURED, TRAINED, OR HIGHLY QUALIFIED." Mistakes are part of our lives, but one shouldn't commit mistakes "INTENTIONALLY." Since then, I have never educated anyone about the RULES & REGULATIONS; I only spoke about "THE BEST PROCESS THAT COULD BENEFIT THEM, BY ALL MEANS."

Learning from Leadership

I agree with your point that a "change in Attitude" is purely due to prevailing situations & circumstances, but one has to have "SELF-CONTROL." Ever since I started working with a DIRECTOR, a well-experienced, mature, down-to-earth personality, I have only learned good things from him because I haven't seen any other person in my life with "EXTREME PATIENCE LEVELS." He is still teaching us, "HOW TO HAVE TOTAL CONTROL OVER OUR ANGER, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE PREVAILING SITUATIONS/CIRCUMSTANCES." Even though he is an AUTHORITY - "HIRE & FIRE EMPLOYEES," he has never made us feel that "HE IS AN AUTHORITY WITH EXTREME POWERS." My DIRECTOR is the best example of an EDUCATOR because he only believes in doing his best by educating his TEAM in all aspects. This is how he is LEADING us in the RIGHT DIRECTION.

Voluntary Service vs. Paid Service

I know that moderators are providing a "VOLUNTARY SERVICE" on "GRATUITOUS GROUNDS." The scenario would have been different if moderators were appointed with MONETARY BENEFITS. Please don't mistake me because there is a huge difference between PAID SERVICES and VOLUNTARY SERVICE.

Effective Communication

You wrote, "Please understand that it is not possible for any moderator on this forum to send any kind of private messages to any person as and when his/her post is deleted." Would you be kind enough to let me know what is the probability for a member to come to know "which specific rule he/she had violated" because there exist more than ONE RULE? Don't you suggest that effective communication should exist between MODERATORS and MEMBERS of this forum?

I believe there should be a much better way of looking into various things rather than just considering MODERATORS as MODERATORS.

Everyone is relevant in some way or the other because he/she has information (good or bad) to share. It's only our perception that makes us perceive either NEGATIVELY or POSITIVELY.

Differences in OPINION will always give us scope/opportunity to arrive at a better solution.

Forgive me if I am wrong. We are all mature people, and we can do things much better than before or expected.

With profound regards,

Regards
octavious
Whenever a post is deleted, moderators have to mention the reason for deleting the post. If we delete a post without reasons, we are liable to answer for our actions when questioned about the same by other moderators and CHR.

I appreciate you sharing your experience with people in the forum. Just as all five fingers are not the same, neither are every situation or people. Therefore, every situation requires a different approach and methods depending on the people involved.

Instead of asking moderators to lower their norms of functioning, experienced individuals like you should encourage members to upgrade their approach towards the system, procedures, and the importance of rules and regulations. This applies only to those members who are not following the same.

A mistake of fact can be overlooked, but a mistake of rules cannot. Believe me, if there were no rules in this forum and every person was allowed to make mistakes based on the principle of 'to err is human,' without the need to follow rules and regulations, CiteHR would be a very difficult place to be in and to manage.

If moderators were to become paid, the costs would increase. Consequently, the knowledge that is free today would become chargeable. I believe that this is not the core idea with which CiteHR was started.

I have a different approach to life and work that suits me perfectly. You have a different approach that suits you perfectly.

I suggest, why don't you become a moderator for CiteHR? It wouldn't hurt to have additional hands and minds to help. I believe you will soon join the group of moderators.

Octavious

Dear Mr. Moderators, nowadays, technology has developed significantly. Should we consider implementing an auto-generation of replies through private messages to the concerned initiators when moderating or deleting threads of any member? This would help reduce the workload and avoid unnecessary arguments. Such an action could prevent ill feelings or misunderstandings between friends on this forum.

Thank you.
CHR
I think Bhaskar's idea can be implemented fairly easily—sending an email to the user when a moderation event occurs is a good idea—but it'll have to wait for some time as there are more developments in progress.

Octavious, I don't think you said it in a harsh way, but as it happens in this text-only medium, people tend to read more than what was written at times. Especially when they are feeling wronged or vulnerable and are voicing their opinions.

Skhadir, I doubt anyone will sit and read the rules and regulations even if we post them everywhere. We do have a "posting guidelines" block which is added to the "New Thread" form—it covers major issues like copyrights and defamation. We can add a "Do not repeat post" there, but the more crowded we make it, the less likely it is to be read. I'll see if we can add some checks for repeat posting, but it's unlikely that such measures cannot be bypassed by the user.

Moderation and Common Sense

I think moderation requires some common sense, a lot of restraint, and the understanding that you don't need to justify anything as long as you are implementing the rules. If there are duplicate threads, they need to be deleted. The fact that the user is not notified is a technical glitch, and the moderators are not responsible for that—they are volunteering to keep the place healthy and clean. That should be their sole motivation and of course, when we have knowledge behemoths like Narasimhan taking up the job—they are bound to spill some of it here.

Need for More Moderators

We do need more moderators, and I'll ask (Cite Contribution) to identify and give them the permissions. It's merely about having the tools to be able to modify, delete, and curate the information available here. It's just better for all of us if the knowledgeable and experienced people have that power.

Regards,
Sid
