In one day, a human being breathes oxygen equivalent to three cylinders. Each oxygen cylinder, on average, costs Rs 700. So, in a day, one uses oxygen worth Rs 2100, and for a full year, it is Rs 7,66,500.

If we consider an average lifespan of 65 years, the cost of oxygen we use becomes a staggering sum of Rs 5,00,00,000. All this oxygen is derived free of cost from the surrounding trees. Very few people look at trees as a resource, and there is rampant tree cutting going on everywhere, which should stop.

Good morning and have a great day ahead. Your message is an eye-opener for those who are cutting down trees without cause. We must also focus on this aspect. The government should require apartment builders to plant two trees for each flat they construct on the land. These trees should not harm the environment or groundwater in any way.

Municipal corporations could provide tree saplings free of charge to those interested in planting trees on wastelands, existing parks, and their own properties. Providing fruit-bearing tree saplings could further incentivize individuals to plant trees on their premises.

In these days of everything being 'counted', this is a very good correlation of the importance of trees vis-a-vis money—in the language that most understand. Bhaskar, I think the problem is not the lack or absence of laws/regulations for tree-felling/cutting, but the implementation of the already existing environmental laws. This would lead one to the same issue all over again—corruption in public/government spending.

As long as the sights are on short-term solutions to inconvenient issues (in this case, the obstruction the tree(s) may be causing to some construction activity and in the process some lowly contractor making a bit of money by selling the wood), forgetting the long-term goals/consequences, we only prove the Bible quote right repeatedly: "As you sow, so you reap"—albeit in a not-so-desirable way.

Dear AVS, It's wonderful information, and thanks a ton for sharing. Truly, it's an EYE-OPENER. It's not just about OXYGEN; it's also about WATER as well. You may not find a sufficient amount of rain in those areas where TREES are missing. It's a natural phenomenon. We should emphasize RAINWATER HARVESTING SYSTEMS, which have been a great success in TAMIL NADU as they are promoted by the GOVERNMENT itself.

On one side, DEFORESTATION is going on, and on the other side, WATER is being WASTED without even giving a thought, "what may happen in the nearest future?" We all are worried about the GENERATION associated with our OFFSPRING. We haven't understood the TRUE MEANING of "FUTURE." It is not something that we are about to come across after years/decades, but it is our "IMMEDIATE TOMORROW." We never know what may happen TOMORROW; it's unpredictable. Hence, we need to REACT IMMEDIATELY for our FUTURE. If our FUTURE is SAFE, then I am sure it will be SAFE for our OFFSPRING as well.

It's time to educate individuals about our TOMORROW.

As said by you, Mr. Sateesh, the problem is not our law; it is our corrupted leaders (Netas) who spoil those who lead the team by breaking the law and bending it for their convenience. They even interpret the law by reading between the lines and create new laws by adding the word "however" further with their created laws. In defense, there is a certificate we have to issue to the Ministry of Defence stating, "There are no trees available, and no trees are cut for developing the land for Military usage/construction of ______ Building." Why can't such a certificate of undertaking be obtained from our builders and developers while issuing the NOC for construction work, approval by Municipal authorities, etc.?

Yes, Mr. Khadir, in childhood, in our 6th standard, we studied the importance of afforestation. Due to deforestation, our land's water resources will diminish, leading to a loss of rainfall worldwide. Water resources will eventually dry up, and we cannot imagine life without water, as our culture developed alongside riverbanks, and our civilization thrived only with water and its surroundings. The soil will also be damaged by erosion due to wind and water, resulting in infertile land.

Even though, Mr. Pon, we plant 7 saplings in place of 1 tree, what is the success ratio for a sapling to become a tree? Who will water those saplings? Who will protect the saplings from animals and children who may pluck and discard them? Will the government take care of the trees cut down by road contractors? If they plant trees in the median like the Hyderabad Municipal Corporation and water them regularly, then it will be acceptable. Otherwise, it is not feasible for contractors to care for the saplings they plant. The Andhra Pradesh Government charges Rs. 200/- per commercial vehicle every two years as Green Tax, which is an innovative idea to maintain trees available on roadsides and in medians on highways.

It's a very true message. Again, I need to apologize for being late to this discussion. People nowadays don't care about trees; even if there is a tree, they will spoil it by doing all sorts of nonsensical things like spitting tobacco and many other harmful activities. Eventually, the tree ends up dying. Unfortunately, human beings seem to lack compassion these days.

It's not my sentiments; it's the sentiments of trees, and it's almost true, which everyone can see. 

Every Indian (at least aware and concerned) citizen should adopt a tree, nurture it, water it, and take care of it. The cost of maintaining a tree is not so heavy on the pocket. The advantages of taking care of a tree, like a baby in my personal experience, are:

-  It's a good exercise to plant a sapling and learn nature's science in real-time.
-  It is de-stressing to involve ourselves in this process of life and growth.
-  Refreshes your mind and soul.
-  Makes one responsible and caring towards nature, albeit all living beings.
-  Brings a sense of accomplishment to nurture and see something grow.
-  Love for nature increases in our hearts when we become part of the upbringing.
- ‍‍‍ Good habits inculcated first will pass on to generations (parents are children's role models).
-  Freedom to choose your own kid (flower, fruit, vegetable, herb).
-  Source of knowledge for one's own development.
-  Enjoy the bounty of nature.
