National and Festival Holidays

National and Festival Holidays include four national holidays: Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, May Day, and Republic Day. Additionally, there are a minimum of five or six festival holidays, such as Deepavali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Pooja holidays, New Year, Ramzan, Christmas, etc., based on the company's requirements.

In general, the list of holidays will be prepared based on the concerned State Government Holiday Notification. Some organizations will finalize the list of holidays in consultation with their unions. However, a minimum of four National Holidays, namely Republic Day, May Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, and Independence Day, are mandatory. Other festival holidays are as per the industry norms.

Best Wishes,

Dear Shanmugam, Welcome to CiteHR. Considering that your unit is covered under the Factories Act, 1948, you are required to go through your applicable State Industrial Establishment (National & Festival and Casual & Sick Leaves) Act to understand the declaration and grant of Festival holidays procedure.

Clarification on Ambedkar Jayanti as a Holiday

Please review the Act under which you are to grant/declare holidays for your establishment. In general, Ambedkar Jayanti (14th April) is not a mandatory holiday. If the appropriate government declares this as a mandatory holiday, then we are required to follow the government notification, if applicable to us.
