Exploring the Impact of Overreacting and Importance of Critical Thinking in HR Management

svksvksvk
In a factory, a man was standing on the floor and looking aimlessly.

The CEO of that factory came and asked about his salary. The man replied, "5000, sir."

The CEO took out his wallet, gave him 15000, and said, "I pay people here to work, not to waste time. This is your 3 months' salary. Now, get out of here. Never come back." The man left.

Later, the CEO asked the workers, "Who was that guy?" The workers replied, "He was a courier boy, sir."

Moral: Don't overreact to every situation.

Wow, what a fantastic story to teach a lesson to those who always overreact in every situation without knowing the facts or reasons behind it. Good one!

Very good one....

Before taking any step or talking, one needs to think. Between a stimulus and the response to it, thinking is required.

Too good,One should think before reacting to the situation!

The story does not end. The courier boy went again the next day to the same office and waited on the floor for the CEO to arrive. The CEO came and told him, "Yesterday, you received Rs. 15,000 from me. This time, I don't want to lose any money. Instead, go and meet the HR Manager, submit your resignation today, and he will relieve you immediately by paying three months' salary as per the company's standing order."

The courier boy then handed the resignation letter to the HR Manager. In response, the HR Manager asked, "Who are you?" The courier boy explained, "I have been appointed by the CEO, and he instructed me to submit the resignation letter to you. Please pay me three months' salary as per the CEO's directive." Subsequently, he received the three months' salary and left the office.

Very nice... a lot to take from the story. Think before you act. Think and act for a favorable result. Don't have any ego, as it kills our interest and creates barriers in the way of our benefit.

Very nice... I will share it with my friends too. Thanks. Please keep posting such useful stories.

Dear,

Good one. There are many cases like this where people overreact to situations. I think it's a good lesson for the CEO.

Hi,

The CEO doesn't know the workers in the factory. There is a gap between high-level management and low-level management. If there is communication between high-level and low-level, then he knows very well. He is not an employee in our factory; he is a courier guy. The CEO must interact with the middle level and low-level management.

Good one. It's good to stop and think before you do anything. Can you imagine how it feels when, as the CEO, you learn that the guy wasn't even one of your employees?

Hello,

I'm really nervous today; please give me some advice. I haven't done an MBA or any diploma for HR, but still, I got a job as an HR Manager in an IT Company. I have been performing this job for the last 2 months. I have lined up with 5 consultancies for candidate recruitment. Interviews are ongoing, and every day I conduct 5 interviews, but none of them have been selected.

My boss is in Australia right now, and he thinks that I am unable to handle the HR job. I am also managing other office work and maintaining staff relations very well, but I have failed in recruitment. Please guide me.

Thank you.

Good message...! This happens when a man does not work with inner sense (soul conscious). Body conscious (ego of being a CEO) did this.

Dear Riddhi,

Recruitment is the most important function in IT, irrespective of other jobs you were doing, as IT is a line function. You have to adapt to that situation.

My suggestions are:
- Send all the resumes to your Australian Boss as a Soft copy and provide the schedule of the interviews in an Excel sheet with all details of the interview results.
- In that mail, please highlight the reasons for not selecting the candidate to show your efforts.
- Please don't depend on the consultant; go to Naukri or Times Job and start sourcing candidates on your own.
- Ask your employees working in your firm to refer candidates.
- Conduct Campus interviews, advertise in IT Magazines, do Head Hunting, and ask the candidate who is coming for the interview to refer candidates.
- Check with recruitment consultants who were very good in Temp staffing and ask them to refer candidates who were working as Temp staff.

Dear Friends,

That's true, every person at some point tries to overreact to simple things in life without knowing the facts and impact of overreaction.

Small story with a big message. One, especially an HR manager, should think patiently before taking action.

Really, it happens with people. They don't think much and give commitment. It is an eye-opener story for most people.

Mr. Gimsur,

I think your CEO is a very foolish person because on the previous day when he paid 15000 to a boy and asked the worker who he was, he received an answer that he was a courier boy. Then, when he met him the next day, how could he ask him to resign?

Moreover, even if he had forgotten about the previous day, he already told the boy not to come again. So, why did he entertain him when he came back?

Thank you.

Dear All,

Thank you for your positive reception. Only a few members have taken a step further to discuss Logic in depth. As an HR professional and as a human being, we have much to learn in this world to survive and thrive. It is impossible to learn everything solely from our own experiences; it is wise to seek knowledge from elders, books, and various sources. Knowledge can be acquired in two ways: by following or choosing not to follow. The story shared in this session is instructive, illustrating appropriate behavior in a situation, contrasting with the actions of the character mentioned. I hope this is clear.

Thank you and wishing you all a very happy Dussehra festival.

Dear Mr. Payalagarwal,

Thank you for your reply. It is all to explain a funny situation without going into the details of realistic situations. I also agree with you. Which CEO in the world would be such a foolish person to ask the courier person to resign again? It is only my imagination of a funny story. Nothing else. It is for enjoyment and to have a laugh, and at the same time, there could be some message in it. Don't take it otherwise as we are all busy with our day-to-day pressures, and this type of communication will make all of us at ease.

Suresh

Well said short story that describes the fundamental and basic behavior of a human being. The lesson to be learned is to find out about the entire situation before taking action. "Look Before You Leap" is the best English phrase to describe it.

How often do we display such behaviors - at home, at work, in society. And often, the impact of our words is only seen later when it is too late. Nice one!
MUKESH THANDRAN
It's absolutely true that people do that. But we need to think twice and thrice before reacting, don't we?

Good one! Short & Sweet!

Lesson to be learned by many who overreact either due to pressure, stress, or out of sheer habit.

Nice platform to share & lot to learn from.
