Leave Entitlement for Newly Appointed CEO

Dear Seniors, please help me to resolve my problem. Recently, we have appointed a CEO for one of our SBUs. As soon as he joined us, he mentioned that the appointment letter issued to him should state him as a confirmed employee. On questioning him, his reply was, "If I am not a confirmed employee of this organization, then how do you expect me to make management decisions?"

Now, he is a confirmed employee from day one. So, how do we credit his leaves? In the case of Privilege leaves, they need to be earned. What should I do and how many leaves should he be entitled to?

Regards,
Deepa

For all senior positions, the concept of "Negative Balance" works. They can avail any leave (with a balance of 0), and it will be settled as and when credited to their account.

We work for 30 days, and then we get the salary for that month. Nowhere in the world or in any government department is salary given without working, so the same principle applies to earned leave. Rules are rules and apply to everyone.

For queries regarding leave, please refer to the HR manual and act accordingly. Determine the leave policy applicable to confirmed employees. Regardless of hierarchy, all employees should adhere to the company's policy, with some exceptions granted based on special approval.

Thank you.

You can divide the AL/PL/EL by 12 to get the monthly AL, which is the limit for the CEO. If he does not take any leave, it should be added to the next month's leave and so on.

Company rules should be followed by every employee, irrespective of designation or categorization. Accordingly, leaves will be given to them in line with others.

As the new CEO of the company, leave should be the farthest thing from his mind.

Well, the Leave Policy of the company shall apply to him as well, and you can process his leave record along the stated guidelines in your company's leave policy.

Best wishes,

As a CEO, the employee is entitled to leave from day one. Senior employees of the organization should be confirmed employees from day one. You can credit the employee with leaves as per the leave policy for confirmed employees.

The general rule followed for Privilege Leave is that for every 12.5 days of working, you get 1 day of PL. This means that you earn 2.5 days of leave per month. This amounts to 30 days a year, which is credited to your account on the 1st of January - 15 days, and on the 1st of July - 15 days.
