Condolence Leave Dilemma: Should It Be Humanitarian or Casual Leave?

Condolence Leave Policy Inquiry

Hi, if one staff member is on condolence leave for a full day to mourn another staff member's loss, should this absence be considered under humanitarian grounds and granted as a waiver, or should it be treated as casual leave?

If your company believes in good HR practices, you should be considered as on duty. If not, what is the sense in saying that we, working in a company, are like family members?

Attendance at Funerals

Death and condolences do not occur regularly. However, you can decide who will attend the funeral; perhaps one or two persons from the department and a representative from the HR department. There cannot be a rigid rule for that.

Thank you very much, sir. The main reason for my inquiry is that employees who participate in a funeral procession do not seem to be eligible for any consideration regarding taking short leaves, while those who are absent from the organization for the entire day are the ones being taken into account. The number of such employees might be approximately 6-7 out of the total 10 divisional staff members.

Best regards
