How Do I Explain a 4-Year Gap in My Resume Without Experience Certificates?

tummalapalli
Hi HR members, I have a problem that I completed my 10th class in 2000. Afterwards, I did not continue my studies due to some family problems. After that, I worked at BPC Ltd, a petrol bunk, for 2 years. Later, I joined SDB SISCO Security Services as a security guard to support my family economically. I then resumed my studies in 2004 and have been continuing ever since. If an interviewer asks me about the 4-year gap, I can't show any experience certificates except ID cards.

Mr. Mukund is right. Tell the fact to the interviewer without hesitation. Further, you can add that despite the gap or difficulties, today you are rigorously continuing your studies and absorbing the knowledge to be at par with others. This will exhibit your positivity. Giving false reasons will not help you in the long run; rather, it is not morally correct. Don't even think about it.

All the best!

You can tell the truth. Explain to the interviewers about the problems that kept you away from your studies. The interviewer can understand.

As you are saying, I have already faced something similar to your situation. After completing my 12th in 2003, I worked in a garment showroom for 1 and a half years. After that, I completed my graduation in 2008 and MBA in 2010. I am now working in a leading edible oil company in North India. The reason I gave to the interviewer about the gap is my family's poor economic conditions.

Don't worry; if you tell the truth, you will win.

Best of luck
