Offer Accepted but Candidate Didn't Join – What's the HR Term for This Situation?

aditenair
Hi there! The term you are looking for is "offer renege" or "offer reneging." This refers to the situation where candidates accept a job offer but later decide not to join the company, despite initially accepting the offer. It is a common occurrence in the recruitment process and can have implications for both the employer and the candidate.

After the acceptance of the offer letter, many times a candidate does not join the company. However, there are also instances where the company refuses to honor the offer after issuing the letter.

Importance of an Agreement Post Offer Acceptance

I believe it is important to have an agreement in place after the acceptance of the offer letter. This agreement should clearly outline the consequences of non-compliance until the joining date.

Thank you.

Dear Aditenair, First of all, on behalf of all the members of CiteHR, we welcome you to join this forum. Please visit the https://www.citehr.com/118961-welcom...ers-group.html thread to gain adequate subject knowledge and understand the procedures to be followed in this forum.

Offer Letter Acceptance and Legal Implications

Have you issued the offer letter to a candidate? Have you obtained a signature on the second copy indicating their acceptance of the offer and their intention to join on a specific date? In the acceptance signature column, you can add another clause as suggested by Mr. Ashok Jangra. Otherwise, you will not be able to take any legal action or impose any penalties for non-compliance.

Wishing you fruitful learning experiences.

Adite, why are you after the unwilling candidates? Leave them and chase some serious candidates. In the current job market, many candidates collect offer letters from multiple companies and then choose to join based on their preferences (similar to the old joke, "Love three, select two, and marry one").

Pon

Thank you, Nivedita, Ashok Jangra, S. Bhaskar, and Pon for your responses. What I was looking for when I posted the question was the terminology. I apologize for not making it clear enough. I'm a student of MBA in Bangalore, doing my internship in the Recruitment Department of an IT Co. My current project title, which I'm working on, is Evaluation of the impression made by the Co.'s Recruitment & Selection process on candidates that did not take up the job offers. I'd like to simplify the title a bit and was therefore looking for the term for such occurrences.
