Feeling Undervalued After a Short Tenure Appraisal – Should I Negotiate for More?

Meenu Sachdeva
Dear Seniors, I joined a construction company in October 2010 as an HR Executive. I have performed very well during the six-month duration. The company usually appraises employees after one year, but this time, management has decided to appraise based on tenure. As I have been working for the last six months, they have calculated the appraisal for six months only, which amounts to around 10-12%. My expectations are approximately 25-30%. Should I accept the offer, or should I talk to my boss, and how can I convince him?

Thank you.

I don't understand why there is confusion. In all, as per details, your yearly increment is 20-24% given on a pro-rata basis (06 months), which is good. This practice is being followed in almost all construction companies.

Dear Amar, the thing is, whatever increment I am expecting as per my performance, the offered hike is a little less than that.

Though I am not from the HR department, I feel that even a 10-12% increment within 6 months of joining is really great. Instead of dwelling too much on this issue, keep up the good work. This will not only lead to a promotion in your position but also a substantial increase in your salary, regardless of the percentage.

VIJAY
