New to Employee Welfare in Manufacturing: What Should I Focus on for My Project?

Actually, I am currently pursuing my MSW in HR. I am currently undertaking my summer placement in the manufacturing sector where I have to work on a project related to employee welfare. As I am new to this field, I would appreciate guidance from senior professionals.

Understanding Employee Welfare

Could you please explain what exactly is meant by employee welfare and suggest some welfare areas that I could focus on for my project? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I am glad that you have taken up a summer project on Employee Welfare in a manufacturing organization.

As you know, every worker is paid salary and allowances for his work. However, mere payment of salary and allowances will not be sufficient to take care of the needs employees. For instance, if a worker falls sick, he needs medical facility. If he meets with any accident, he needs not only medical attention but as well long leave with salary also. Like these, we have so many needs like educational facility for children, recreational facilities, and crèche facilities for employees’ children and so on.

When you take up a project on employees welfare, please find out what are all the facilities that employees are given in the company in addition to salary and allowances and briefly discuss about them. Also meet a few employees and find out their reaction about these programs and a small write up could be incorporated as “Employees Observations”.
