Understanding the Time Office

Please provide some ideas about the time office. Does it fall under any statutory laws or regulations? Any help would be appreciated.

As per my knowledge, an employee should work for 8 hours with a 1-hour break, which includes 30 minutes for lunch and two 15-minute tea breaks. However, this is highly variable based on company policy.

Thanks

Yes, office hours come under the Factories Act, 1948. According to this act, the total office working hours in a week are 48 hours with breaks (tea and lunch) included. If you prefer 5 working days, then it would be 9 working hours per day. Alternatively, if you opt for 6 working days, then it will be 8 working hours per day. Additionally, there should be two tea breaks of 15 minutes each and a lunch break of 30 minutes.

You can also refer to this Act for information on leaves and benefits to be provided to the employees.

Hi Tapan,

The time office is a vital part of the human resource department and oversees contract laborers, workers, etc., employed in any organization. They closely monitor the workers, particularly the non-executives working in an organization.

Of course, it operates in accordance with statutory laws or regulations.

Correct me if I am wrong...

It is also a part of the Shops and Establishments Act of the state. So, if your business falls under this act, do check what it says regarding work hours for your business. In these acts, it varies based on the nature of the business, category, type of employment, etc.

Time Office in Administration

The Account & Administration Department is divided into three parts (as per the construction company):

1. Accounts
2. Store
3. Time Office

In the Time Office, we mainly deal with the PF section, ESIC Section, and External Affairs such as dealing with DLC and the Factory Inspector. All the acts (Contract Labour Act, Bonus Act, Minimum Wages Act, and all the statutory norms) are followed and maintained by the Time Office. There is no act that describes it as an integral part or falls under any specific act.
