Need Urgent Help: How to Develop an Effective Performance Appraisal Plan for a College HR Department?

Hi everybody, I have been tasked with developing a plan of action for Performance Appraisal. I am working in the HR department of a college. Please suggest a plan for conducting Performance Appraisal. This is urgent.

Mere having a plan for performance appraisal is not sufficient. You need to train your managers on how to conduct performance appraisals. Secondly, you need to train your subordinates on how to receive feedback. Without these two components in a plan, no matter how sound it may be, it could go awry.

I still remember when the performance appraisal system was first introduced in our company. We had a clear-cut appraisal manual written by HR professionals, and external help was sought from consultants. Following that, everyone underwent classroom training on what performance appraisal is and how it should be conducted.

Recommendation for Performance Management

In your case, I recommend drafting a performance management policy and organizing a one or two-day workshop on performance management to create awareness and familiarize people with performance management tools. Unless people are trained when adopting a new policy, there is likely to be strong resistance from the majority.
